Yeah that's what I was thinking back in the summer when they did the DJ/dance parties and markets in the temp plaza. This just confirms it. I'm very excited 😁

If this gets built like the renders show this will end up being the best development of its kind in the entire city (in terms of public realm). The fact that they're putting real effort into this kind of engagement leads me to believe they care enough to make it happen
Yeah the podium and public realm is great. The towers above the podium leave alot to be desired. One would be an acceptable design. It's the fact that there are three tall towers sharing the complex design theme.

I love the community engagement here and I don't wish to diminish it. They are getting a ton of publicity for very little cost. The point is that it's hard to say if this is "caring" or an ingenious marketing strategy. Part of me wishes it's just an ingenious marketing strategy as it will get more developers to copy it.

They could revise everything in the renderings.

There's a pedestrian inclusion level that is unseen in Calgary and the towers aren't adding anything to it. Rather, their numbers, their designs, their placements, could be very negative. I feel it's one tower too much. A wind screen (see The Well in Toronto) maybe best in appeasing my concerns with Calgary's blustery weather patterns.

There's no reason to shit on a proposal like this, it's everything the beltine and 17th need. The podium is a 10/10.....even if the towers are a 7-8/10, who f&$$^n cares its a great overall project. To nitpick tower design, which eventually gets lost in the sea of downtown, when it's the podium we engage with everyday

Shitting on it? You're a little too attached to this. My last post had nothing to do with architecture although it should be clear I wouldn't rate the group of towers 7 or 8s. Fine if you do. I consider the group a 5. What gets built above the podium certainly impacts the ambience of the place. This isn't San Diego, California. The Plus 15 climate controlled environment is a massive success for a reason. I'm speculating here based on what I've seen built elsewhere. Simple fan support doesn't interest me. I rather have more indepth discussion on proposals because, IMHO, it's critical to get every nuance 100% right with tall residential towers. There's such a rush in Canada to build large scale housing. The nuances that make high rise living great and the environments in high rise neighbourhoods have fallen by the wayside. Vancouver was at the top of the world. The city still hasn't completely given in. However, its suburbs look more and more like Toronto which has completely given in to developer's whims. The Ontario government even encourages developers to go more extreme.

The width of these towers indicate narrow shoe boxes for the non corner units. I, personally, find those units terrible places to live. The spacing is tight for the heights of the towers which tells me many units will have views into other units. I also find that less than ideal when you are a 20 or more storey elevator ride to the street. The whole point of living up high, paying a premium to live up high, is to have some sort of view.

This development reminds me a lot of this one. It would be a great office complex. It is oppressive as residential

I’m a little confused about the posters who absolutely love or don’t like this project. As far as I know there isn’t even a complete set of plans released yet.
I’m on the side that this is a positive so far. They are doing lots of public engagement and the sneak peaks are looking good.
This could be one of the best projects in Calgary. Let’s just be patient
