Still the slowest demolition ever lol. I look forward to construction starting in 2027!
Yes, the demolition of this existing building does not include the entirety of the underground parkade and they are keeping the parkade in tact as a parking garage for the residents of the residential conversion project. To the North of the residential conversion, they are building a new single storey auxiliary building mostly to house electrical transformers. But the new building will be structurally supported by the existing parkade with modifications.I'm dying to know if they're keeping the underground. Early renders showed it staying, now I'm not so sure.

The development is still unclear. Neither the DP or BP is released for the office conversion project! There is only an active demolition permit. Keep in mind there is no parkade directly underneath this office/residential building (only to the existing parkade being partially demolished), and these parking deficiencies will be relaxed or addressed during the DP review. I'm sure someone knows the answer to your question, but not me.If the existing parkade is being kept for tenants of the conversion than where will the 1000 proposed units having their parking? Are they underpinning new levels or is the area outside the existing parking garage footprint large enough to supported the necessary parking without have to dig down to the molten core or build above ground facilities?
Here is the drawing I did.The parkade takes up a decent portion of the block and is two levels. There are multiple elevator shafts (boxes) and stairways (circles) you can see from the aerial. This is approximately the size of the parkade.

In this they talk about the amount of parking for the 37-storey tower. Which believe is going in the SW corner."The iconic Transalta building at 110 - 12th Avenue SW in Calgary is set for demolition. The six-story concrete structure is expected to be taken down by the end of summer 2025. This demolition will pave the way for a new 37-storey tower that will feature 334 residential suites and three levels of parking. Stay tuned as we show the demolition progress!"
This confirms the underground parking will also be coming out. It is only two levels. No small feat as the parking structure takes up a large portion of the block. This shouldn't affect the conversion outside of leaving it with zero parking stalls until a new parking structure is completed. There is no parking under the original TransAtla building.
