If you look at the space immediately north of the pavilion in summer and winter shots, the latter shows a shed, containing an object that appears to be be shaped like a Zamboni machine and a ramp to the ice. So hopefully that means the ice plant is still present. The quality of the ice is a feature that cannot be missed here. If this is gonna be done, do it right.

Can't be a coincidence that directly in front of this shed there's a break in the rink boards...

Wow, I was hoping for good, but this actually looks truly "great." What a nice surprise!

Also, construction progress...

Like has been just pointed out, the big issue is whether or not there is a cooling plant & Zamboni garage/space. It is definitely needed. Without it there will be no reliably usable rink given our winters.
Curious about the size of the planned ice surface vs the previous ice surface. The renderings look a lot smaller... which would be a damned shame. The OP rink got heavy usage! Reducing the size while drawing more people to the area seems bad.
Napkin math puts the new rink at 70% the area of the old rink

That space in the corners wasn't really used so this is another check in the box from me. The box on the northside of the pavilion and the Zamboni enclosure in the winter all but confirm there is an ice plant. Wondering who they'll name the Pavilion after? It cannot just stay 'Pavilion'. Too bad we have to wait until 2028. I think they said they won't start work on it until 2027.

Knocked it outta the park with this one.

People are definitely gonna climb that sculpture though, aren't they? LOL
Yeah I am really thrilled by this design honestly. We're losing a huge portion of the space to Arts Commons, but gaining an immeasurably more functional space which eliminates any loss. I also just noticed it looks like they're including an offleash area in the northwest corner. Also just loving the small patches of grass around too, just big enough to be useful to chill on and find some shade during an event.

One thing I noticed though, I don't really like how the Pavillion turns it's proverbial back to City Hall/Municipal Plaza. Seems to be minimal activation on the street side of it. I would prefer the pavilion were along the 7th Ave side rather than Macleod Trail, if it had to be turning its back to something. You know?

The Pavilion isn't the issue, it is Macleod. The issue is always Macleod. Beltline divided: Macleod. 25th Ave could be so much better but Macleod. Mission Landing is great, accept for Macleod.

I can confirm that there will be a refrigeration unit under the ice to keep it cool in the winter. It was confirmed to me on the CMLC Instagram page.

After finally looking at all the plans closely, watching the video, and reading all the items included I am very impressed! I give it a 9.5/10 this far! I’m still shocked they went with a water feature.

I thought the exact same thing.

Yes of course it does, but having the pavilion in a place that it essentially precludes any future integration of the plazas for events isn't the move. Having a building blocking some of the noise of the train would have been a good move though. Macleod can be changed, eventually, but the train isn't going anywhere.
