I really liked the old design. The balconies reminded me of Aqualuna in Toronto. That said, I also like the new design. Almost looks like it’s inspired by Mies van der Rohe. I like that the balconies are inset.

    General Construction Updates

Appears to be a temporary City parking lot, similar to the one next to OJ’s.

    Nostalgia Townlet I ?m I ?s I Jayman Homes

Looks like the official unveiling is tomorrow. I think this could be an interesting master planned community. It’s a picturesque setting. What we’ve seen so far of the Nostalgia Club looks good. One of my biggest issue with these types of developments is that developers usually cheap out on...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I knew about the traffic light, but not the multi-use path. I agree the light isn’t ideal, but it has to be better than the current conditions. Would love to see cycling improvements on 20th St from 26 Ave to 50 Ave now. The lanes are there, but the infrastructure could be better.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I received a notice from the City that they are going to replace the sidewalk on the south side of 34 Ave with a multi-use pathway between 17 St and 14 St, connecting the Main Streets work. Pretty sure this forum identified the gap before...

Is this real or just an AI generated rendering? If it's real, the plans in the DP Application do not do it justice!

I probably wouldn't mind this if there weren't so many of the same building.

    Marc and Mada | 62m | 19s | Truman | NORR

Return trips from downtown to Marda Loop are definitely unpredictable. I will just jump on whichever one I see between the MY, 7, 13 or 22, because I can never trust the schedule for any of those routes. My new office is also not a great location for the return trip for those routes any more...

    General Construction Updates

$75M? Get real! That's >2X the project costs. This would set a really bad precedent. There is no way that the business owners are facing these types of losses. I remember seeing an article in 2023 where the owner of the Apt22 consignment store claimed they had lost hundreds of thousands of...

    General Construction Updates

Weird. Nothing on DMAP yet. Presumably they are going to create a temporary parking lot like CalgaryTiger suggested. I could also see this site acting as a laydown yard for Marc and Mada until Boardwalk gets its own site applications in.

    Porte Currie Barracks | 24m | 4s | Porte | Gravity Architecture

It’s only going to get more challenging to build high rise in Currie the longer they wait. Right now, there would be minimal opposition because much of the area is still undeveloped/in transition.

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

It’s an every day occurrence now. I witness groups of people doing drugs in public every day. I witness individuals having mental crises every day. Last week there was a woman walking barefoot, down the street, clearly under the influence, sobbing as she walked. It was 7:30 AM. I asked if she...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Leonard Development has submitted a DP for a “Marda Loop Hotel” on 34 Ave near 18 St. It’s not my favourite design based on the render, but Leonard hasn’t missed yet, and I think a boutique hotel is such an interesting proposal for the neighbourhood. I assume the (relatively) new short-term...

    Gresham Block | 24m | 6s | Truman | Casola Koppe

Looks good. I’d still like to see more developers take a risk and eliminate balconies. This building would look even better without the balconies (plus balconies is usually where developers cut costs by using cheap exterior materials). I know I rarely used my small condo balconies, and in...
