    Travel Discussion Thread

I second what trtcttc said, Kyoto would be better than Osaka if you had to choose but Osaka is close enough you could easily do both. We stayed in Kyoto for a few days but went to Osaka for the day. In Tokyo we stayed in Shibuya, it’s busy with people and shopping, bright lights and action...

    61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

You’d be surprised. It’s not my type of location either, but it will be very popular and they’ll have no problem renting out units with being right in the middle of one of the largest malls in the country, a train station and Home Depot and Staples, etc..

    61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

I don’t think it’s that discouraging. It’s the 61st ave frontage that counts. As long as 61st Ave. turns out decently the TOD will be fine.

Super slow again 😟 so slow it’s more or less unusable.

    Cars, Pedestrians, Cyclists and Transit

This exactly. It’s not a zero-sum game, whether you like cars or not, they’re here to stay. Energy and resources are best put into pushing for better infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. In some cases, it may be at the expense of roads and drivers, but in most cases, both can exist. And...

    Canada Men's Soccer Team

Even if Canada loses against Venezuela, everybody will be happy with their result in Copa America. The next two years leading up to the World Cup will be where we see if the progress is real or not.

    Water main break discussion

Most older toilet tanks were between 10 and 13 L and the new ones are all 4.6-6L On average the new toilets probably save about 6 L per flush, but yes, you are correct, there would be a huge amount of water saved just with the new toilets alone. I’d be curious to see what water usage was like...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Why couldn’t we do elevated over the CPR tracks? Downtown are all underpasses at the moment, but we do have roads at cross over top of the tracks already and other parts of the city. I wouldn’t object to it being elevated, but I don’t like the idea of it being elevated and then dipping below the...

West Village Towers | 149.95m | 42s | Cidex Group | NORR Dubai Yahya Jan

I’m hoping they do the third tower. The damage has already been done with the podium on the first two towers so why not at a third tower and an extra 300 residential units in the core. My beef is only with the podium anyways, IMO the towers are fine.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

There’s also the global petroleum show which starts this week. I went and took a look yesterday morning and I have to say it’s a lot larger than I was expecting. The interior decor and finishing is far superior to the old BMO center, which was more like a warehouse IMO.

Yeah, you’d think that a half built project in the middle of a housing shortage would be easy to get finished. Hope it’s back on again.

Every city in the world has an undesirable neighbourhood (or several) and the decline is always the same story. They were once nice neighborhoods, but series of different factors started some decline, and once it was in decline, it’s was vicious circle. Whatever the causes were for Victoria...
