    West Tenth 1400 | 24m | 7s | Trimount

I love your enthusiasm/ideas and I share your desire for improving 14th as a main street, however I feel like there's some naivety embedded in these comments. There's obviously a lot of improvement to be made but it's also important to strike a balance between the functional needs of the...

Also, this project has a nice massing and the cladding is inoffensive. That’s a win!

Don’t get me wrong, I live in the area as well and I’d love to see the improvements you are talking about. I’m just pleasantly surprised to see the investment in multiple towers in the area given the current condition. The challenge with 14th is that the street network design in Sunalta, Mount...

    West Tenth 1400 | 24m | 7s | Trimount

The stretch of 14th Street in that area is one of the worst pedestrian streetscapes in Calgary. It's amazing that anyone would want to live in the vicinity! Less than 10 years ago the City completely ripped up and rebuilt the street but didn't make a single pedestrian improvement nor plant a...

Montreal and Vancouver are the cities we should be emulating. Not Toronto.

It's bananas but Calgary is now a primary distribution point for a ton of industries. Goods land at the port of Van, are shipper here via rail or truck, broken down in Calgary, and then shipped back to BC via truck.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Brilliant contribution to the discussion! May I interest you in SSP Local Calgary. 🤣 Just stating my observation that the lane is sparsely used - the river pathway close by is a much more pleasant ride so people tend not to take the bike lane - and 3rd Ave is not particularly close to centre...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

It's funny, I crossed paths with her when she was running the RE program at Haskayne and she seemed fairly centre-right and market oriented. Then an election rolls around and she's suddenly a hardcore lefty.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

LOL so dramatic. Will Gondek be the Rob Ford of Calgary?!?!? I kind of hope so... would be extremely entertaining! Honestly I bike through here all the time and those bike lanes on 3rd are hardly ever used. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Correct - the 1600 Patio tucked back there is a nice pit stop when you're doing a lap around the reservoir.

Never really thought of this but it's crazy that Fort Calgary doesn't even have a replica of the fort!

    Glenmore Landing | 115m | 35s | RioCan | NORR

I'm actually surprised at the lack of opposition to this thus far given where it is in the city. If this was 10 years ago, local media would have kicked up a real ruckus. Remember the fuss over the BRT?

We are 3 days away from the 8 year anniversary of this project being announced. Wow!

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

For all you bike geeks - the City has an engage page up for Riverwalk West, which will extend to 14th Street: https://engage.calgary.ca/riverwalkwest I'd like to see the current Bow Trail slip lane realigned to provide more public space along the river, either via 10th or 11th Street...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Yes, the big bad not-for-profit volunteer Stampede board is certainly to blame for policies directed by the City of Calgary, federal government, and megaevents like the Olympics and failed world's fair. 🤣

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I know people love to pin this on the Stampede but what happened to Vic Park is actually a result City of Calgary policy and some abortive attempts at urban renewal in the 60s and 70s. If the Stampede Board had their way, the grounds would now be located at Lincoln Park where MRC is - which IMO...

    Arris - 5th and Third | 142.03m | 41s | Embassy Bosa | Amanat Architect

I've got a project adjacent to the DIC so I'm down there weekly and it's really not a great situation within a 1-2 block radius of the facility. One of the construction workers was attacked recently, there are regular overdoses, multiple instances of human shit being flung about, and the common...

The DP is for renovation/alteration. Hopefully they don't mess up the building too badly - it's one of the nicer examples of midcentury commercial in the city!

Is Calgary still an oil and gas town or has it moved on?

A combination of elevated regulatory risk and (somewhat irrational) negative investor sentiment. If you want an example of this - check the divergence in valuations between Canadian E&Ps and US based operators over the last five or so years. As Keynes said, markets can remain irrational longer...
