Calgary Flames Official Thread

One really has to wonder about the Leafs core and whether they have what it takes. The bottom line is Leafs star players haven't been able to deliver when the going gets tough.
I think it's also a style of play issue. Nylander and Tavares seem to do better in the playoffs because they play a more North-South puck carrying game. Matthews was injured this year, but him and Marner's game typically relies on finding gaps in coverage which are just far fewer in the playoffs, especially late in the series. Teams are studying your tendencies and will have their top D pair on you. Matthews has the size to change his game, Marner I'm not so sure.

I am not a huge hockey / sports guy, but I am watching the games with my son. I think it would be nice to see McDavid and the Oilers win a cup, and have it brought back to Canada.

Cheering for, no but it isn't that simple for me...

I don't want to see the cup in Florida anymore, I'm not saying a Canadian team needs to win the cup but it would be nice to see a passionate hockey market win. I lived in Edmonton and I know it isn't such a bad place, they do street calming and bike lanes much better than we do and are actually meaningfully adding on to their LRT network (not without some issues...). Am I worried about the arrogance of Oiler fans? Yes but I know the Oilers and the things I mention above are about all they have to be happy about. Also Maurice is a tool in a shed so seeing that guy's ego checked would be nice.

So if the Oilers win, I'll be happy for my dad (longtime Oiler fan), Connor McDavid, and... that's the list.

Seeing the celebration would also be wild! I assume they end up in Commonwealth with people in the stands and on the field. How many people could fit in there 100,000+? It is crazy to think but honestly and I mean realistically thinking about it they could probably get 1 million+ people to come out.

As a big flames fan just cant put myself to cheer for the oilers. any other canadian team sure even vancouver but cant with them. they will be annoying about it for the next 25 years. at least people in florida will forget they won once the cats stop being good

The depth that was there against Dallas cannot compete against Florida. This was probably their best shot too, the Oilers have no one of even minor potential in the pipeline to help them in the playoffs. Sure 29 and 97 are good enough to get them to the playoffs for years but I doubt they can keep getting to the final with their roster construction.

Everyone assumes 97 resigns, why would he, because his friend is there? No guarantee he can win anywhere else but there are teams that have more immediate potential than the Oilers. He probably does resign in Edmonton but that would be a mistake IMO.

McDavid will stay in Edmonton, he wants to win a cup there. Edmonton will have to move a forward or make a free agent splash if they want to be back here next year. What they need is a goalie and a defensive defenseman (think Chris Tanev), but knowing the Oilers, they will probably go for a scoring forward or dman.

Marner and Matthews are friends, didn't really seem to matter. RNH and Hyman took a step back this year. If that continues playoffs may be questionable. That team after the first line and first D pair is not even a playoff team. No one else other than Bouchard cracked 50 points.

Oilers got pummeled tonight. I thought the Oilers would win it this year, but Florida got past them even easier than last year, outscoring them 10-3 in the last two games. Goaltending was an issue for Edmonton, but scoring was also.
