Nice to see another building get converted, especially a newer one. Interesting takeaways from the article, Strategic didn’t apply for funding for this one, nor did they for the Hanover building. I wonder if other buildings are becoming viable without the funding? Also, noted in the article...

Agreed. If my math is right, the conversions will take away 1.5M sqft or roughly 2%, so not much of a change for the vacancy rate. If some of the other towers, sit empty long enough, we may see more conversions going through even without the cities subsidies.

Are you thinking of Foothills MD only, or including the municipalities in it? Combined it’s about 85k. That’s 5% of the current CMA population, so I would consider it substantial.

Sounds like they’ll be keeping the skyrise, which is fine by me.

That’s what I found. It’s almost hard to tell where downtown is because high rise buildings are scattered. My first arrival into Ottawa was through Kanata and coming over a hill, my wife said, ‘look there’s the skyline’ and I’m like ‘where?, I don’t see it’.

I like it, it’s nice to see a splash of color.

Calgary’s putting some major distance between itself and comparable cities like Edmonton and Ottawa. Even without Foothills MD.
