You're overestimating Musk. He's honestly not that smart, he's a creative idea guy. He's Zuckerberg but you know a fascist, I would never accuse Zuckerberg of that.

He's a opportunist and a slave driver. An opportunist in that he never created anything on his own and has benefitted massively from being the money behind very smart people. He's slave driver because he pushes people beyond what I think is reasonable and fair. There are obviously some very smart people that work for him as for why they continue to work for him, I have no idea.

I think people assume the richest man in the world would be a smart one, but how smart is another story. I still think he's a smart person, but probably not as smart as a lot of people assume. I think he's smart enough to think a plan through and take advantage. He's definitely an opportunist and I think he's taking advantage of this opportunity to push his personal agenda, which is looking a lot like fascism.

That's where I too, think he's smart, which is the part that worries me. He seems more likely to look at ideas and think long term. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he has a plan and he's following it.

Trump on the other hand doesn't seem very smart in any way. His dad bailed him out a few times, and yet he still managed to go bankrupt 6 times, including bankrupting his casino operation - something I didn't think was even possible lol. He also has the discipline of a toddler, and can be controlled by either giving him compliments or he can lose keeping his eye on the ball by telling him you don't like him. I will give Trump credit for his salesmanship, time and time again he sells people on his ideas, whether business or politics.

You have to look at who's buying what he's selling. Trump is a conman, short for confidence man, if you're susceptible to someone who shows a little confidence you buy what he is selling.

I've gotten really personal on here lately but that's what anonymous usernames are for... A family member recently confided that they were behind Trump because they thought he was finally someone in power who cared about guys like him and Trump wanted to change things. He now doesn't think he really cares about or knows what he's doing. He's just breaking things and doesn't actually care to put them back together and that it will be someone else's job to fix things and when they do, the same people who always got ahead will keep getting ahead.
 
I think there is a possibility that there is degraded capacity at play, working long days, not eating well, and making up for neglecting exercising and sleep with drugs.

There is also, we are used to leaders even if they are technical ones, having an arts and social science background. A classic engineering approach to public policy goes wrong quite fast typically, as the engineer quickly finds out policies were designed a certain way for valid reasons that are not solveable. You can't just say 'eh, a 2% error rate in the negative isn't bad, I'd trade that off to save the inefficiency of the 2% error rate in the positive' when that 2% negative error rate can mean people kicked out of their apartments, starving, not having medical treatment available, and ultimately not being alive anymore.

There aren't huge low hanging fruit out there. There is do less, or change who pays.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's selling anything good, only that he can sell his ideas, much like a grifter or cult leader can sell to someone smart.

Yeah, it's getting far crazier than I expected. I knew when he got elected the US and the rest of world indirectly would be in for a bumpy ride, but things feel like they are getting out of control. What scares me is that many of his supporters seem to know the direction things are going, but don't care. That's the part that worries me. It's one thing for Trump to get out of control and have people wake up and do something, but so many of his supporters are willingly following him. It's like they want this to happen.
The way the whole Nazi party rise to power unfolded isn't much different.

The US military going after the president would be a coup and would start a civil war. What needs to happen is the Democrats need to find someone with some charisma that can start to take away some of Trumps momentum and secure both houses in the mid terms.

He's already publicly, proudly, and extremely openly engaging in rigging the midterms. And has all but stated the constitution means less than nothing, so will obviously go for an unlimited number of terms.

They've already begun taking away women's and trans rights, they're now coming after gay rights in the Supreme Court, has sent countless thousands of legal immigrants to concentration camps, and hes deployed the military across the capital. Literally the Nazi playbook.

If their military isn't going to grow some balls and protect their constitution, then who will?
 
Chad, I know you get excited about this stuff, but what you are advocating for would be the absolute worst case scenario, millions don't need to die to get rid of Trump. And you best believe that whatever conflict there would spread here, and Canadians don't need to die to get rid of Trump. Another thing to consider is how much Russia and China would try to impose their will on the world with the US tearing itself apart. A US civil war could spell the end of western society as we know it. Lets not cut off our nose to spite our face.

What needs to happen is for Americans to stand up to Trump, not to allow his BS and to turn out in numbers to take his power away. Democracy needs to prevail.

He wasn't elected democratically, as hes admitted multiple times to stealing the election... so how can we expect democracy to prevail when it was already summarily defeated by an actual group of billionaire pedophile nazis? Like, its so absurd to say, but its an actual thing thats now underway 🤣Books have been written about this kind of shit, and its actually happening.

Are you saying what youre saying in like a fanciful sort of dream the beautiful dream way? Or like, you're seeing what's happening and you actually think that a peaceful solution to this catastrophe is possible?

Unfortunately, at this point a civil war is likely impossible to avoid. A military coup and the restoration of democracy would likely save millions of lives versus the direction Shitler is barreling towards.

Anyways, the road to fascism has been paved by people telling those with adequate pattern recognition [autistics, ADHD, etc] to stop overreacting, just fyi. So while I do agree with the beautiful ideas you mentioned, they're no longer realistic.

As much as you may disagree with his politics, he won the election, the electoral college and the popular vote. Democrats need to be more forceful in their actions, and I think we're starting to see that, with redistricting for redistricting, versus just screaming into the void about democracy while their power gets eroded with each action. Becoming like MAGA people and denying the results of relatively transparent elections is not a path the left and centre should go down.
