Can we talk about how insanely terrible the TWSIs were done on 33rd??? Left a gap in the sidewalk that was left for months filled with gravel, sand, or literally nothing but a giant gap! Once they finally came around to installing them they were shoddy concrete blocks that aren't level and leave edges or gaps exposed, and they're expecting the visually impaired to benefit from these... it's as if they handed off the drawings to a contractor with zero experience installing tactile strips or some worthless attempt at longevity. Forgetting even all of that, they have poor contrast and don't follow the standards for decision points so they would still suck if installed perfectly

What would be the advantage in putting the TWSIs in sand bedding? They are set in the wet concrete in other places that I've seen them.

I'm not sure if they actually left the sand there. They were filled right to the top of the sidewalk level and the slabs are at least a few inches thick

Btw the new Centre Street MAX stations have blue plastic TWSIs set into the concrete and they're much much better done and have blank decision points and visually pop from the concrete much better.

Ruined it? I think that looks far superior to the precast box it was before. Still a solid 3/10 but it beats the 1.5/10 it was before lol.

Taste is subjective, but I'll take the precast concrete/mid-century vibes of the original any day.

If they were dutch, it may have reminded them of Indonesia. Shell has big interests there even today.

I have family visiting from Italy and i can promise you they almost enjoy getting fast food like A&W, Chipotle, etc. vs sit down restaurants. We drove around looking for a restaurant for 35 minutes a couple days ago and ended up eating at subway.

My cousins told me it’s because they want to eat the foods they see in movies and on social media when they’re here.

So sad to hear you settled on Subway... but understandable.

With the construction in Olympic Plaza, Glenbow and the block of Stephen Ave on Glenbow, this area is going to be a bit of an armpit in the downtown for the next little while.

Anyone go to Folk Fest and see how used the new Eau Claire Plaza was?
