Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

100% with this government they will wait until after the municipal election to resurface Deerfoot since most Calgarians are unaware that Deerfoot is a provincial responsibility and will instead blame Gondek and Council for problems created by the province. If Calgary elects a conservative mayor and council in the fall, watch many of these provincial jurisdiction issues magically get fixed.
There's plenty of bones to pick with this government that resurfacing Deerfoot probably isn't some evil plan for the municipal election. It makes no sense to resurface when there's still lane expansion work, bridge work, on/off ramp work, and work building/fixing medians. If they resurface now, it'll just be cracked because of small movements during construction. Not to mention there's slowdown during resurfacing, because they have to remove the top layer so there's going to be a sharp drop. Cars will need to slowdown. Combine that with all the other work, people will just be complaining about the slow speed of Deerfoot.

So they mean 70km of lanes? So a 4 lane section of Deerfoot both ways would translate to 8.75km of actual distance? I really don't think they're only going to resurface only a tiny portion of Deerfoot
The province when it estimates costs of resurfacing projects province wides does it in lane km for the yearly package for Treasury Board approval. After 5 ish years of working consistently they'll have done it from Stoney to Stoney. South of Stoney is in a current P3 from when it was built iirc.

It would be a huge resurfacing project if they do the part that’s nearing completion in the North. The work in centre part of the project is almost done. There is some work on outside parts of the project. Not sure if that part will be done this year though. I would think paving would be done after everything is completed.
I really hope they open the new inside lanes soon.

Speaking of paving and rough or smooth roads. Highway 40 is a blissful smooth ride, I assume that has to do with a lack of transport trucks.

That concrete base section of Deerfoot will have to be redone, it is a continuous headache to try and maintain.

After this current improvement is done, Deerfoot probably won't see much for a few years. With Stoney and Deerfoot being complete, I guess the province will have to start putting money into the Green Line construction.

Deerfoot will never be complete. Much of the work on these projects are the bare minimum. So more could have been done. A

Yes, same with how Crowchild has a plan to freeway between Kensington and 24th. But most likely after a big project, they'll move to do something else. Like how when they're mostly done Stoney, then started Deerfoot.

Stoney is mostly done. They should expand the NE section though. Being only 2 lanes for a good chunk of it. One more thru lane and on and off lanes should be added from Airport Tr to Metis

Deerfoot = Province
Crowchild = City

Speaking of Crowchild, the “Medium Term” improvements could start in 2027 - I hope they do 🤞🏼

You might as well do this all at once like was done with Glenmore between Macleod and 14th Street, it will be a huge price tag but if you're asking for Fieldhouse money you need to be asking for money for this.

I sure hope it starts. But these seem like concepts. To actually start building something, I assume it'll be at least a 1-2 year design and acquisition phase?

I honestly think the earliest construction starts on Crowchild 24th Ave N to the river is still a minimum 10 years away (2035).

Hope I’m pleasantly surprised and it gets underway sooner than that.

The only way I can see the city dive into Crowchild is if the province and their car first visions throws lots of money at it. I’d think the City would use that money for LRT expansion first.
