The hoarding is a good sign though. The next sign to look for is the caisson drillers showing up.

Oh I didn't notice it in the recent photos so I thought it was new.
Looks like they did move the excavator and some of the other stuff around. That and the hoarding, I would say it's looking promising for a construction start.

This building will be constructed on foundation footings instead of drilled piles.

I’m a construction dummy with a question, What is the difference with foundation footings? Does it still require excavation?

It does still require excavation. The basic difference is a footing is a wider area flat of reinforced concrete that the foundation is then placed upon. It’s spreads the load of the building. It’s is placed much shallower than piles, which are much narrow, but go much deeper into the ground. Piles are a lot of work if you have to go through rock.

Sounds like the foundation is similar profile to what is used for single family but larger dimensions.
