It's been 3 months since we last checked in on TELUS Sky, arguably Calgary most exciting construction project. In those three months however the exterior hasn't changed significantly, with the very upper portion of the tower still under construction - like it was when we last checked up on it. It's progressing, but at a very slow pace.
The building was topped off 9 months ago, with most of the exterior cladding installation done save for the triple height floor which will encompass the sky garden. Work on that last tripe height section has been ongoing ever since and change has been happening at a crawl, leaving many to wonder if the project was halted. Envelope issues with those very top floors are the reason behind the slow progress in recent months, and while the project may appear idle at times, the work is indeed being done.
Recent photos show that the Westbank developed tower is into the final stretch, with only a small amount of exterior cladding installation remaining. Designed by Denmark based Bjarke Ingels Group, along with Calgary based Dialog, the 60 storey tower is already a show stopper, and will be even more remarkable once it's finally completed. Telus Communications, the tower's namesake will occupy the lower office floors, while the upper floors will be upscale rental units.
It's been a long time coming, but most people agree that it's been well worth the wait. With only a small amount of exterior work left, it won't be long before we get the complete vision of TELUS Sky
With more activity yet to come for TELUS Sky, SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to the project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
