The Spider Block as it is called by Calgary based Certus Developments has been progressing slowly but steadily over the past year, and now it is almost complete. When we last looked at the project, back in September the scaffolding had just come down, revealing the exterior of the brick work. Since that time most of the work has been on the interior, but work has also taken place on the final touches of the exterior.

Fast forward to now, and the building has fully come together on the exterior, and even has an active tenant - Pharm, - occupying one of the main level retail units. Other tenants: Tokyo Smoke, Daily Brett, and Curo Chiropractic Clinic will soon be occupying the other retail bays.

The look and feel of the The Spider Block is exactly what one would expect of a building developed by Certus and designed by McKinley Burkart. A stylish modern building, which high quality materials, and good urban form.

For those wondering where the name 'Spider Block' comes from, Certus explains the story of the name as: 'Our “Spider Site”  project gets it’s unique name from the beloved “spider beetle” that once sat prominently at the front of the former “Mechanics Garage”  occupying the site for more than 30 years.  A friendly and welcoming  mascot to the communities of South Calgary and Altadore'.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to other projects in southwest Calgary as well as others by Certus Developments. For more information on Spider Block, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
