The Spider Site has molted once again, as the protective hoarding that recently covered the bulk of the structure has now been removed. Lying beneath, the handsome, redbrick facade and factory-style grid windows are now clearly visible, providing observers with an excellent idea of the finished product.

Designed by McKinley Burkart for Certus Developments, the 4-storey commercial project in South Calgary will feature three floors of office space and a rooftop restaurant above a single floor of street-facing retail. Sitting pretty at the corner of 14 St SW and 29 Ave SW, the Spider Site will go a long way towards re-animating the 14 St SW corridor, its mix of commercial, retail, and dining space to help increase local foot and car traffic.

Though primarily the future home of a medical office/clinic/pharmacy combo, the addition of the aforementioned rooftop restaurant (complete with outdoor terrace) and retail space at grade, will make for a popular neighbourhood destination.

Furthering its curb appeal, the decision to place the parking to the rear of the structure, as opposed to the front, has helped bring the development forward - making it more open and inviting.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
