It's been over a year since we last looked at The Fifth, Arlington Street Investments' mixed project at 17th Avenue and 5th Street SW. At that time the project was going through changes due to Arlington purchasing the adjacent lot and with the new lot secured had decided to widen the proposed structure to include both lots. New renderings were released, but activity relating to the project has remained quiet since then.

That has all changed and The Fifth is now poised for construction. Equipment has arrived on site, demolition of the adjacent building has begun, and word has it that construction is set to begin on the 34 unit mixed use proposal. Designed by NORR Architects, the 5 storey building will feature retail units facing both 5th street and 17th ave, with four floors of residential space sitting atop the retail bays. The project is right in the heart of one of the busiest areas of 17th ave.

The project sits in a key location, and as mentioned previously in this article, 5th street and 17th ave SW is one of the busiest intersections in the Beltline and retail will be an asset to area. The location is also great from a resident's standpoint, with numerous restaurants, pubs and stores all within a 10 minute walk. The downtown commercial core is also within close proximity at only 8 blocks away.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
