Two months since we last checked in on Cidex Group's recently re-branded West Village Towers (now known as The Hat @ West Village), and the first phase of the tower trio has moved ahead significantly. In particular, as the tower continues its ascent, so has its patent patterned paneling, the development's colourful spandrel exterior now visible several storeys above grade.

Designed by NORR Architects, the latest attaché to Cidex's "Hat" clan (rack?) will sport a whimsical array of multi-coloured spandrel paneling, to be employed across the entire height of the tower. Adding a much needed punch to the project, the effect will more than likely be pleasing, though opinions on the matter remained divided among our Forum members.

In its full build-out, the Hat @ West Village will include three interconnected high-rise towers - at 150, 125, and 100 metres apiece - to be conjoined at their bases via the inclusion of a large mixed-use retail podium. Located at the corner of 11 St SW and 9 Ave SW, the Downtown West End-area development will bring a total of 800 new residents to the area.

Close to transit, Shaw Millennium Park, the Bow River, and Beltline, the 554-unit Hat @ West Village will no doubt a be a prime address for years to come.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
