Six weeks since our last update, and progress upon Phase One of Cidex Group's West Village Towers has continued at a steady pace. The first and tallest of the eventual tower trio (150, 125, and 100 metres in height) has risen at least 40 storeys above grade, and appears close to topping off.

Located upon a massive, block-sized plot at the corner of 9 Ave SW and 11 St SW in the Downtown West End, West Village Towers will be a transformative project for the neighbourhood. Set to comprise of 554 units in total, representing an influx of upwards of 800 residents, the full buildout will breathe ample new life into the rapidly changing area.

Close to Shaw Millennium Park, the Bow River, and the West Kerby CTRain station, West Village Towers will be a prime address for those seeking to live near to the core, yet within easy striking distance of nature. Meanwhile, down at street level, the base of the tower trio will be defined by a massive, interconnected retail podium that will feature a mix of public space, shops, cafes, and many other services.

Facing onto 9 Ave SW, the beige-grey spandrel wall, though perhaps not as visually inspiring as such a large fixture ought to be, will serve as part of the aforementioned mixed-use podium base. Aesthetics aside, the project, once complete, will be a fine addition to the area, the Downtown West End in the midst of a major urban transformation.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
