Nearly two months since our last update, and progress at Hines' two-volume 500 Block has been moving swiftly along. With the 7-storey mid-rise block now topped off, the 35-storey tower has been rising fast, with what appears to be only a handful of floors left to go.

Altogether, the 463-unit 500 Block will represent a significant addition to the core, its full contingent of 600-plus residents to bring a great deal of urban vibrancy to the local streetscape. Located at the corner of 4 St SW and 12 Ave SW, close to the core, transit, and the sights and sounds of the nearby Beltline and East Village, 500 Block will more than likely be a popular address for urban professionals and young families.

500 Block's volumes will be conjoined via a multi-storey residential connection, the leftover space between the mid-rise and tower to be used as a small outdoor courtyard. The base of the development will be lined with a continuous strip of ground floor retail, thereby adding to the intrinsic value of the project.

Well-situated, and designed by Kirkor and Solomon Cordwell Buenz with an eye towards thoughtful urban planning, 500 Block will no doubt be an easy sell for its downtown clientele.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
