One month since we last checked in at 500 Block, and the 35-storey project has risen to new heights. Standing tall at roughly 20 storeys above grade, the tower and mid-rise duo by Hines, Kirkor, and Solomon Cordwell Buenz has become a fixture of the downtown skyline.

500 Block consists of two distinct volumes - a 35-storey high-rise and a 7-storey mid-rise - which together will have room enough for upwards of 600 residents spread across 463 units. Located at the corner of 4 St SW and 12 Ave SW, 500 Block takes up a large downtown lot within walking distance of the core, Beltline, and East Village.

Forming a common podium, the mid-rise segment of the development will be home to a continues strip of street-facing retail, which will front onto two sides. As seen below, the two volumes are adjoined, thereby facilitating indoor access between each.

Close to transit, shops, restaurants, and Central Memorial Park, 500 Block will be a popular address for those looking to live in the heart of the city.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
