Exterior finishing for West Village Towers has been a topic of much discussion, due to the fact that the 37-storey residential tower has almost topped out but still did not have any cladding installed. The lack of glass and spandrel caused some Forum members at SkyriseCalgary to draw comparisons to North Korea's Ryugong Hotel.
That all came to an end on end on July 26th, as the first pieces of spandrel glass were installed. Photographs show panels of dark charcoal coloured spandrel, along with medium-grey spandrel panels installed on the lower section of the tower.
The installation of the cladding was delayed due to an issue with the Asian supplier/manufacturer. With the building already well under construction, Calgary based Cidex was forced to change suppliers, which resulted in a lengthy delay. Despite the delay, cladding is now progressing, and installation of the spandrel is going at a good pace.
Designed by Yahya Jan (NORR Dubai), the project is being built in phases and will eventually feature three towers and 554 units. Retail will be built into the podium with CRU's facing 9th and 8th Ave SW, the podium to also feature several rooftop terraces.
Updates will follow as more cladding goes up. We will check in again in a month or so when some of lower floors have been completed. To keep up with regular updates or join in on the discussion, check out our related Forum thread or visit the building's main Database page.
