Three months since the arrival of the main crane, and ONE Properties' three-tower Curtis Block has begun its ascent. Designed by Arquitectonica and DIALOG, the two-phase, mixed-use development will be built in stages, the rise of Towers 1 and 2 to precede that of Tower 3.
Merely a dirt-covered build site back in March, Curtis Block has blossomed over the intervening eight weeks into a fully-fledged construction zone. The first few floors have begun to sprout, the initial rounds of cement pours having dramatically altered the appearance of the site.
Set to become home to more than 1,500 residents spread across nearly 1,000 units, Curtis Block will represent a major population increase for the downtown core. Located along 12 Ave SE between 1 St SE and Macleod Trail, Curtis Block will serve to greatly fill in the liminal space that currently exists between East Village and Beltline.
Viewed from above, the Curtis Block build site can be appreciated for its sheer size and scope, the tower-trio to take up a full city block. Set to be joined at their respective bases by a common retail podium with frontage along three sides, the residential towers will be well-equipped for the needs of residents and area locals alike.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
