Only a couple of weeks since our last update, and progress at the Spider Site in South Calgary has moved ahead significantly. Having recently molted its scaffolding, it would appear that cladding is now nearly complete - save for the top floor.
Covered almost completely in a dark red brick cladding, the Spider Site has taken on an almost Industrial-era warehouse aesthetic, one which is backed by the inclusion of large factory-style windows. Of note, the final product appears to be a 180 switch from the two-tone colour scheme as laid out in original design (below).
While the above rendering features a majority white/grey exterior, accented at the top floor with a dark-coloured crown, it is looking like this scheme may be realized in reverse (depending on the colour of the crown, of course). Tone aside, the final product will be a 4-storey commercial development with three floors of office space and a restaurant perched atop a single floor of retail.
The setback rooftop level will allow for a generous outdoor patio to abut the side of the restaurant, while down at street level, a cafe with streetside patio will be joined by a small row of retail bays. Contrasted to the image above, the Spider Site will be a massive improvement to the 14 St SW corridor.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
