Almost two months since the arrival of Curtis Block's giant red crane, and progress at the site of Phase One of the three-tower residential development by One PropertiesArquitectonica, and DIALOG has moved ahead considerably. Pilings have been set, floors have been poured, and it will thus not be long before the first two towers begin to poke above grade.

In its full buildout, the three-tower Curtis Block will eventually be home to 958 units for a grand total of more than 1,500 new residents. Located at 12 Ave SE between 1 St SE and Macleod Trail, Curtis Block is situated south of the downtown core between the Beltline and the southern tip of East Village.

Thereby filling the liminal space that exists between these disparate neighbourhoods, Curtis Block's massive population will go a long way towards filling the gap. Speaking of gaps, the images above and below, taken more or less at street level, highlight the extent of work now well underway at the base of the first tower.

The base of the interconnected development will hold a ground floor retail level with multiple frontages, thus making for a great influx of local pedestrian/urban vibrancy. For now, however, we must wait patiently, as it will be more than a year before we see the final product.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
