A month since we last checked in at Arris 5th and Third, and progress upon its massive commercial podium has continued to move along at an impressive pace. Framing, insulation, and glazing work has progressed significantly, the commercial podium now more or less filled out ahead of cladding.

Set to become a significant addition to East Village, the mixed-use 5th and Third will combine two residential high-rises (41 and 24 storeys) with a massive multi-storey commercial component at grade. A whopping 180,000 square feet of prime commercial space within the base of the two-tower development will be split between a Loblaws City Market and a Shoppers Drug Mart, thereby bringing two essential services into East Village.

The two towers will hold a combined 500 units, representing an influx of up to 800 new residents. The addition of 600,000 sq. ft. of residential space, alongside the aforementioned retail component, will serve the area well, the added pedestrian vibrancy to provide a sizable boost to East Village.

With the insulation and framing work now largely complete, it will likely not be long before the first instances of cladding (besides glazing) begin to appear on the base of the project.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
