Running high off the excitement of its recent groundbreaking, excavation work has now begun in earnest at PLATFORM in East Village. Drilling has replaced the light work of ceremonial shovels, the pile of dirt now on-site evidence of the future scope of the project.
Situated at 3rd St SE and 9 Ave SE, the $80 million development will consist of a multi-level parkade stacked atop two floors of prime retail and a 50,000 square-foot innovation centre. The five parking levels will have room for 508 cars, more than enough to ensure that the mix of stores, cafes, and restaurants below will be well-stocked with customers.
Moreover, the planned PLATFORM Innovation Centre will represent a good share of the site's daily usage. The inclusion of an outdoor sports court will further enhance the building's appeal beyond the legions of shoppers and diners that will eventually arise.
PLATFORM is a joint venture between Kasian, 5468796 Architecture, the Calgary Parking Authority, Zinc Venture, and CMLC. As such, PLATFORM has been designed to integrate seamlessly into the larger plans now well underway for the overall development and success of East Village.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
