Construction at the site of Cidex Group's West Village Towers has been ramping up since our last update, both figuratively and literally, the emergence of the angular podium base having brought a new dimension to the three-tower project. Located at at 9 Ave SW and 11 St SW, the west-end development has been taking shape, West Village Towers to eventually be home to upwards of 800 new residents spread across 554 units.
Viewed in the images above and below, the unusually angular massing of the podium base can be appreciated, the project's unique silhouette to be a defining feature of the massive, three-tower residential development. The towers will rise to 150, 125, and 100 metres apiece, each of which will be interconnected via a common base.
The podium will itself be home to a continuous strip of retail options, thereby injecting some much needed urban vibrancy into this often overlooked corner of the city. West Village Towers will place residents within easy walking distance of Shaw Millennium Park, the Bow River waterfront and path network, along with the West Kerby Ctrain station.
A large public realm element will be built at the base of the project, to consist of a plaza and terrace. Once complete, West Village Towers will be a welcome addition to the Downtown West End, the development to hopefully spur more of the same in the near future.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
