Construction activity in the Beltline seems to never slows down, as witnessed by yet another high-rise tower project starting construction. One Properties, fresh off the completion of their successful Versus development is now going ahead with their Curtis Block project on 12th ave SE in Calgary's Beltline neighbourhood. With the dust still settling from the demolition of the previous buildings, drilling rigs and other equipment rolled up onto the site. Calgary based HCM Group will begin work drilling, shoring, and excavating within the next two weeks if all goes to plan.

The project will be built in two phases with phase one consisting of two towers (36 and 32 floors) on the north end of the parcel alongside 12th Ave SW totalling 628 units. The second phase will add a third tower on the 13th Ave side and 330 more units for a grand total of 958 units. Designed by global giant Arquitectonica, the three towers will be prominent in Calgary's east Beltline area. The project's podium takes up most of the block and will add multiple retail units to the 12th Ave streetscape. There will also be retail units facing 13th Ave SE.

The construction of the buildings will be welcome news for residents of the Keynote residential towers on the north side of 12th Ave as they have been sitting across what has been mostly an empty lot a decade after the original Curtis Block was demolished back 2008.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file or for more discussion and photos check out the Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
