Five months since we last checked in at the site of RNDSQR's Beacon in Shaganappi, and progress has moved along well. Work on the excavation pit has proceeded steadily, the build site now dug in deep at its location at 3110-18 17 Ave SW.

Set to become a sleek, modern, commercial space, with designs courtesy of the WInnipeg-based 5468796 Architecture, Beacon will be comprised of two floors above grade, and two below for parking. The ground floor will be dedicated to retail, while the top floor will be leased as office space.

Airy, and light-filled, Beacon will be a welcoming development, attractive to both retailers and small businesses looking for a new home outside of the core. In terms of location, Beacon will place its tenants within easy walking distance to the Westbrook Mall, and the shops and restaurants that dot 17 Ave SW.

While transit options in the area are limited, the availability of ample underground parking will go a long way to addressing this concern. For those coming from the Beltline, or suburban neighbourhoods southwest of the core, Beacon will be a welcome commercial option and retail opportunity.
