In the five months since our last update, progress at the site of the Residence Inn by Marriott has been moving along consistently. The 34-storey, 390-key SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts-built project now rises more than a dozen storeys above grade, and the most recent images on our Forum provide us with a first look at the cladding work now underway.
Rising at the corner of 10th Avenue SW and 5th Street in a prime downtown location that is just blocks away from the Stampede Grounds and Saddledome, the Residence Inn by Marriott will likely be an easy sell for visitors and business travellers alike.
Viewed in the close-up image above, the glass cladding work now underway mirrors that featured in the renderings. The completed tower will be clad almost entirely in a smooth glass curtain wall accented by opaque spandrel panelling as seen in the image below.
Once complete, the Residence Inn by Marriott will be a welcome addition to downtown Calgary. The city's high hotel occupancy rate, which is among the highest anywhere in Canada, will be partially alleviated upon the project's completion in 2019.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
