I'm curious what people's wish list would be for 2018. It could be a proposal, or something that doesn't exist.

Here's mine. I left out ones that are likely going to happen (500 Block)

1) City and Flames owners find common ground for a new arena.
2) 3 tower proposal for Elbow River Casino goes ahead.
3) Green Line construction starts a year earlier
4) M2 starts construction
5) Steps starts up again.

1) Eve Block gets purchased by an globally renown developer
2) Green Line starts construction a year early
3) New Arena proposal is finalized/New Stadium & Field House proposal is finalized
4) Twelve Avenue by Arquitectonica goes ahead
5) And either: the Bow South gets underway, Barron Building gets converted to residential with amazing glass addition and boutique retail spaces, or the ContainR Park Lot (Sunnyside) gets amazingly well-integrated, mixed-use proposal and goes ahead by Dec. 31, 2018.

Left out due to likelihood:

The Hive
GROW
M2 Block
500 Block

Mine are almost the same as Urban Warriors.

1 - new arena deal (one that works for everyone)

2 - Point Tower gets underway

3 - Barron Block conversion

4 - York Hotel gets rebuilt

5 - City and MOCA come to an agreement on Planetarium use.

I had to stop and think about this. For me my biggest priority is the Green Line but I'm gonna leave it off the list because it's going to get built anyway sometime.

- development at the container park in Sunnyside
- development of that empty parcel beside Westbrook LRT station
- development at the Royal Bank site in Kensington
- development at North Hill Mall where the Sears is.
- New arena deal in Victoria Park

My wish would be for a major institutional announcement for the downtown area hopefully gobbling up some of the free office space in the process. Other desires have already been covered.

Can't believe I forgot about that. Definitely number 1.

On a serious note, HQ2 is the last thing we want. The end result will be the exact same office space glut position we are in right now.

Personally, I hope this doesn't happen. I think the Planetarium would be a mediocre space for art at best....it just doesn't have the ability to host large-scale work. Something like Mewata Armoury next door would make for a much better starting point for a retrofit (ie keep the bones, and add a modern addition).

A dedicated contemporary art museum/gallery is I think the biggest cultural hole in this city and would love to see it filled. The lack of one is actually pretty embarrassing for a city of this size.

I agree fully that we need a proper art gallery, but the Planetarium would be a good intermediate step. Once it’s in there and established it would be easier to plan toward a larger world class facility.

Amazon is not much different than the oil companies that abandoned their free spending ways the minute commodities went bust. FANG has some of the most bloated share values out there. Seattle will become a ghost town should Amazon's market cap suddenly take a major hit from a tech correction. Do you really want that again for Calgary?

I don't believe "HQ2" will actually be a second head office equal to Seattle or reach the 50,000 well paying professional jobs. This whole thing smells.

Amazon is a large company and has some traits of large oil companies but it’s also completely different in other ways. Even if they only create 5,000 jobs instead of 50,000 that’d be fine by me.
