US Politics

That 60 Minutes interview with Leslie Stahl did not help Trump's cause. While, Stahl did come across as a 'shark circling in the water', he continued to lie and boast on a variety of topics . For a President of the U.S., he was inarticulate and incoherent in some of his responses. Trump should have been better prepared but that's him. His ego makes him believe he can talk his way out of anything. His base is unflappable but if you are undecided, I don't know how that performance could win you over.

The blatant lies that are coming out of Trump during his rallies in the last couple of weeks are at a new high. For a guy that claims things like 'it's the biggest, it's the greatest; no one has ever seen anything like this before; IT'S an all time record' ... oh and the best and most ironic line of all ...BELIEVE ME' 😆..... he is right. No one has seen lying from a president on the scale of this one ever before.
Call me old fashioned but if I was truly an American who valued democracy, I would prefer my president wasn't a pathological liar. Just saying.🙄

When Trump was elected, I considered him to be a mainly harmless blowhard who wouldn't make a good president, but having the possibility of some upside. Maybe he would shake up the political landscape and inadvertently do some good? I figured that with Trump being an outsider, the guy might do a few good things here and there that might surprise people. Nope. To my surprise he's actually much worse.

He's been a disaster in so many ways, and the biggest issue starts with him being seriously flawed as a person. I never realized just how flawed is. He's either a narcissist or a sociopath, and badly needs to go, which I think will happen. It looks like he'll lose at least Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, and that would be enough to cost him the election - assuming he doesn't take any blue states, which I doubt he will. He could also end up losing more states, but he's trailing badly in those three states and that would do it.

I'm confident Trump is losing this election, but I'm worried that he'll drag it out with claims of it being rigged or some other dumbass excuse. This will serve to rile up his base and we could see some crazy shit happen. I hope that's not the case, but I'm preparing for it.

Trump is making last gasps about everything, Now he crowing that he was responsible for the 'greatest growth of GDP in one quarter ever in history'. This is consistent in the way he talks about everything. However he neglected to mention that the previous quarter was the 'worst in history' and the U.S economic activity is still well below pre-pandemic levels.
His only contribution to the Q3 GDP was that he signed a stimulus bill. The bill would have been signed by any president in office, under the circumstances.

It is genuinely disturbing what is going on down there. Unfortunately due to being bathed in US news, massive interconnectedness, and pressure groups happily parroting talking points which get traction downsouth (mostly to dangerous effect on the right these days, but the left is certainly guilty of a lack of imagination and curiosity in exploring Canadian problems and developing Canadian solutions too) we are suffering too.

The amount of direct parroting of the President's COVID rhetoric (cases are only due to more testing, those that want public health measures want to prevent Christmas from happening) plus various conspiracies (various Gates/Soros non-sense, the use of talk about child trafficking/molestation as a signal to Q-Anon folk) online in Alberta specific forums is disturbing. Heck 'Alberta Proud' is now openly attacking public health measures!

I am worried about the effect this President has had on Canada's conservative parties. Parts of their base are getting more and more reactionary, and illiberal, and the way the parties fund themselves sets them up in a way that they can't contain those forces. A parallel has happened to the NDP and to a lesser extent the Greens but the force of the Liberal Party is able to keep it at bay to an extent.

It's pretty amazing to think about how badly he is about to lose. It's looking like it's going to be the harshest defeat since 96. Trump is highly likely to lose Florida, North Carolina, Arizona on top of the entire upper midwest which you mentioned. Formerly solid major red states like Georgia and Texas are now in play as well, with Georgia very likely to flip blue. Also a good chance he'll lose Ohio and Iowa, but those are less likely than the others and about as likely as a Texas flip.

It's just amazing to think of how crushing this defeat is about to be for him... the worst president in all American history... a republican in the days of polarization... losing f*cking Georgia. He might literally he an aneurism. 😂 🤣

For reference, there are no blue states even close to flip/tossup territory, while 7 (including Nebraska #2) red states are in flip territory, and a further 5 (including Maine #2) in tossup land.

Exactly. Trump has everything to lose in this election. All the flip states he won last election were by thin margins....really thin in some cases. It could end up being a landslide. He'll very likely lose Mich, Wisc, and Penn. If he even loses Florida on top of those, it'll be washout. The rest is icing on the cake.

Give the way he never admits mistakes or takes ownership of anything negative, I can't imagine how he'll handle this, other than to go down saying it was rigged, and thus never have to admit to losing.

I'm very confident he'll lose Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Arizona. I have a hunch he'll lose Florida and NC too, but by close margins. I would howl with laughter if he lost Georgia, that would be epic.

I'll be honest, as much as I want Trump out, I'm scared what might happen if he loses. I can't help but imagining huge civil unrest and militia groups feeling the need to stand up for Trump. Its weird to say but civil war, or at least massive violence and unrest seem totally possible.

Maybe if shit really hits the fan we'll start seeing some American companies start leaving the country all together. I can't imagine massive civil unrest and uncertainty is good for business.

The Democrats can't afford to be overly confident as they were in 2016. The national polls favoured Clinton and that was borne out in the popular vote. However the polling in the swing states mentioned above is still closer than it looks when you factor in the margin of error.
In his rallies and on twitter, Trump is doubling down on every lie, exaggeration and insult in an effort to get every Republican out to vote. There is still a large percentage of the public that is buying into the 'Democrats mean socialism and the decline of American values' argument.
If he does not like the result (losing), then for sure this will turn into a very public and legal 'shitshow'. Hopefully with either no or minimal violence. Don't count on him discouraging bad behaviour though.

Let's hope for a historic landslide victory by Biden. That will take the air out of the Pro-Trump militia groups (at least in the immediate aftermath of the election). According to poling, Biden has a better chance at winning places like Texas than Trump does at winning the election. In other words, Trump is just as likely to lose in a Herbert Hoover-level historic landslide defeat as he is to eke out a narrow victory.

All I want is for Biden to take Georgia. If he takes Georgia, that will be the most hilarious, crushing defeat imaginable for a narcissistic sociopath like Shitler. Losing a hard red state like that, he might literally flee the country. Losing Texas would just be a fabulous bonus.

We already know he's losing Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Florida... but North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas... I might pee 🤪

Record voting .... apparently the highest per capita since 1900... means a lot of people who usually don't vote are voting this time. It could mean both a Republican and a Democratic surge. Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million in 2016 but eked out a victory in 3 states that normally vote Democrat. Unfortunately, the electoral college can still favour Trump unless Biden can win a traditionally red state like a Georgia or Arizona, and perhaps a swing state like Florida. It is very unlikely that Trump will gain any more states than he did in 2016.
Either way if Trump does hang on to all the states he won last time, he will win again but possibly lose the popular vote by 6 or 7 million. Think about that. He could still be president for 4 more years, though millions more people in the U.S said no, than yes. o_O

So are we going to see civil unrest in the states tonight? or will the numbers take a few days to come in? I'm betting someone is declared a winner by the media tonight, but the official result will take up to a week.

Official results are certified in the first swing state to certify, florida, on the 17th. https://ballotpedia.org/Election_results_certification_dates,_2020

Difficulty comes if they haven't counted all the votes by then, whether a court order can keep the count going in opposition to what the state secretary of state says.
