Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

With a Making Waves investment, it isn't a stretch to see us being a Summer Olympic city.
The scale of hotel assets needed for a summer Olympics — Vancouver falls short too, with about 3x the number of rooms. You might think that the athletic facilities would be the expensive bits, but the athletes village is the 800 pound gorilla.

Damn! Bluestone on 12th looks like ass. Like others have said, it's great to see a Beltline parking lot disappear but I really hope they take another pass at the aesthetics on this one.

It's just been submitted so hopefully there's an opportunity for the file manager and Urban Design Review Panel to coax them into some aesthetic improvements.

Agree that it's not exactly a looker, but I still think it's a huge win to replace surface parking with a couple hundred or so residents (it's 195 units). That said, it's a far cry from Truman's u/c towers; this is one of those cases when I'm thankful it's not taller.

I agree with others Bluestone is rather banal, but it's good filler. It won't be seen among the forest of other highrises, and at the end of the day, it's another 150-200 people in the Beltline fronting onto a cycle track.
Agreed. Totally boring box with 150-200 people in it, with a reasonable ground floor in the heart of a pedestrian, high-density neighbourhood. Vibrant major cities around the world are built off of stuff like this.

Looking back on the old aerial photos, this parking lot is an oldy - dates to the early 1980s. Would be good to heal such an old, vibrancy-sapping scar with something productive (if incredibly boring looking).

Another new DP in, Bluestone Tower, appears to be 18 storeys. Architect is NORR, Developer is Amble Ventures, who I note are the same developers as Yellowstone and Redstone. Much like those, nothing special but I'm sort of digging those different balcony colours.

Need to work on that color pallette haha.

Looks like another significant office conversion/upgrade for the block just to the north on 11th ave.
