Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

If you got some cash lying around you can join the soon to be open old YMCA. Looks nice, as it probably should.

Ha the website showcases both New York and what looks like Denver. Seems like marketing for a sale of the building?
Lol, it does look more like Denver than Calgary. For those who are too lazy to find an actual pic of Calgary and use AI instead, this is what you get.

That site is arguably the cheesiest, low effort site I've seen for a marketing site to do with Calgary. Which is a shame, but the building looks solid in the renders, but I highly doubt that would be the finished product.

The sad thing now is you can put a pic of the old building into AI and have it spit out multiple renderings of new facades and then pick one you think looks nice. No Architectural effort was involved. That is an immediate flag that this is just a marketing play.

Some updates from CMLC.

Anderson, fish Creek Lacombe, and Dalhousie stations have been selected for "transit oriented communities"

There are also some interesting EV updates. Are any of these new? I'm confused what project is being referred to at 7th Ave and 5th street that is apparently starting construction next year.

  • "Triovest has submitted a land use application to The City for their site just north of Studio Bell for two residential towers offering an anticipated 500 units combined.
  • BOSA has sold the Evolution site (where the East Village Experience Centre has been since 2012) to Ayrshire Group, who are in the planning stages for a residential development and anticipate submitting a development permit this summer.
  • Slokker Homes is advancing a Development Permit for an approximately 200-unit rental development at 7 Ave and 5 St S.E., expected to begin construction in mid-2026."

It could be the second phase of Verve. Slokker was involved in the first phase. If so, that would be great to see. Also would be nice to see another 500 units go up next to SB.

It feels like EV could be gaining some traction and getting back on track.

Public real improvements progressing on the North side of first ave in bridgeland, hope we see more mixed use on the side of the strip. Bridgeland has some of the most potential of any inner city neighborhoods.

The shoppers mixed use project has started too.
Lots of potential in Bridgeland. I wish we could see small lowrise buildings on the north side of 1st ave. It would make such a nice corridor.

New-ish 6 story future TOD proposal near the future South Hill (Riverbend) station
