Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I sure wish that the Suncor towers were taller, I would like for that one to still be the tallest even with all the new ones built around it.

They are lovely buildings, but they won't be dwarfed any time soon really. Still 705ft tall, that's nothing to sneeze at, no matter what city its in.
Maybe it's just the colour, but it reminds me a little of Scotia Plaza in Toronto. It may not be the tallest, and there are sure to be many more buildings taller than it to come, but it's still a very impressive building, and it's not going anywhere.

Great comparison! At first glance the skylines don't look different, but when you take a good look at this year's skyline and then go back to the older one, the older one seems almost empty.
Comparison of the skylines 10 years apart. As luck would have it, the weather was pretty much identical. I cropped the new shot, sop it would match the old one....I forgot to turn off manual focus, so the newer pic is a bit blurrier. Focal length was a bit different but the angles looks pretty close.

There's definitely something to be said for those granite clad beauties. It'll probably be a long time before anything like that is ever in fashion again.

Nice comparison Surreal. Our skyline has filled in nicely from that angle. that was always my least favorite angle, but now that it's filled in, it looks good. The view from the NE is now my least favorite.

Planning Commission this week, here is the full agenda:
https://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Docum...mission/agenda/2017/agenda-cpc-october-05.pdf

Item 5.01, (page 123/303) - This is the land use redesignation of Stampede Station Phase 2. Simple land use redesignation, but there are some interesting details about what Arris REIT has planned. 30 storey apartment building on top of retail, according to the applicant submission on page 132.

Item 5.05 (page 173/303) - The DP for the student housing tower at Banff Trail Station ARP. DP plans start on page 187.

The student housing tower might not be the sexiest design out there, but I'm happy to see this moving ahead. They plan to start building as soon as they have all their approvals in place.

Might not be the sexiest is an understatement. It's still not a bad design for a student tower. It's just too tall for not being sexy.

Here's more renderings of the project for Edmonton Trail and Meredith Road that was mentioned a while back (about 6 months ago)
