Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Catching up on old posts. What is the motivation behind Phase II which would replace the existing bridge connecting north from the LRT into the community? That bridge replaced the original 1985 era bridge in the 2000s to accommodate a RIRO entrance off Memorial.

Is the Glenmore work supposed to be done by this year? I think the northern parts are almost finished, they're just changing finishing up some of the exits, like McKnight.
The Glenmore work really only solves the three to two lane squeeze on Deerfoot. Fixing Glenmore would require replacing the original bridge as well as providing ramps for all movements to avoid the silly routing through the auto center. I would argue that Glenmore is Calgary's most important road :

-one of few high capacity east-west routes
-central location at the north-south axis of the built up area
-connects all major roads in Calgary (Stoney E, Barlow, Deerfoot, Macleod, 14th, Crowchild, Stoney W)
-traverses the bottleneck created by Glenmore Reservoir/Glenmore Park /Weaselhead
-primary access to the enormous light industrial area in the SE which continues to grow rapidly

I know a full Glenmore rebuild would also require a collector-distributor layout due to Blackfoot's proximity. I'm surprised this isn't higher on the priority list.

Fixing the Calf Robe to 17th section will also be a major undertaking as it would consider the future 50th Ave interchange, reconnecting Barlow through the 17th interchange and possibly reducing the curves before and after the Calf Robe. Also need to consider the Green Line bridge over the Bow and how it will cross Deerfoot. Wonder if that crossing is close enough to be combined with a 50th Ave crossing.

I love that there's no traffic on that river so that we can build these low, easily crossed, bridges.

It should have been part of the St. Patrick's Island design, but glad to see it's finally being considered.

Found it interesting the city will be getting its second DDI

This area should be known as the DDI District.

I also noticed in Inglewood directly adjacent to the future Green Line station, what was Ol' Beautiful and near Cold Garden. The timeline says this work is underway:

Very much so, they almost have the west half of 11th from 21st to the underpass finished and work is happening on the east half and various spots in Inglewood. I'll go and take photos soon

Wonder if the 194 and 210 interchanges will need to be built at the same time ?

They don't technically need to be, but it would be silly to build an interchange at 210th to get you onto Macleod, only to hit lights at 194th.

Seems like history repeating itself only further south. The Shawnessy interchange was built, with a pre-existing interchange at Hwy 22X, and lights in between at 162 Avenue. IIRC it seemed like a good 10+ years between the Shawnessy and 162 Ave interchanges being built.

Another way to phrase this could be: it would be silly to build an interchange at 210th because you'll also need to build one at 194th.

It would be interesting to know exactly how much time this saves for Calgarians...seems like the bulk of the benefit goes to parasites. Left turns get replaced by either two traffic lights or one traffic light+ one loop (the one at Shawnessy is about 460 meters to do what a regular left does, so about 30 seconds around 60kph avg)
