What an awesome building. If this building was 30 storeys taller it would the be one of the coolest buildings on the planet.

Now they just need to fully commission it! The outer wall is getting closer - far more wind tight than 4 weeks ago. Still lots of work to do installing motors, putting cladding in the air space.

It is pretty obvious as an occupant that the building is not ‘smart’ yet. It is operating on timers not operating with sensors informed by timers. The past week it opened our blinds maybe five minutes too early as the sun was setting blinding our floor. During the whiteout snow the blinds insisted we needed to shield ourselves from the sun as it would normally as the sun progresses around the building.

without the outer glass being active the building has little cooling ability (radiant ceiling panels which only work when the central plant is cooling the campus cooling loop and are only meant to be used a few days a year) so I gather the building is in a mode to try to limit heat gain. Also without the active facade there is no everyday air circulation. They have had to use the smoke fans for the stairwells to get air moving in the mean time.

When it is fully ready the building is supposed to measure light levels constantly to maintain consistent levels of light, tuning the ceiling lights plus sun light, with the automated blinds to be optimal. It is supposed to open the windows when the temperature climbs inside to provide a breeze so the cooling panels almost never need to be used, and open them at night to cold soak the concrete to provide convective cooling during the day. It will open the right internal passages and outer windows to flush hot air out of the window cavity into the building core then up a solar chimney where the old sixth elevator was iirc ( I wonder if this will make the building in zero emissions mode look like it has a smoke stack in certain weather!).

Right now a beautiful blonde bimbo, but later a sexy smart brunette

Whatever the case with the building, one thing that is for certain. It's beautiful.
