The MacKimmie Block will be starting demolition this week. A second crane will go up with a slightly shorter reach, 55m, compared to the current crane's 65m. Not sure if the second crane will go up before complete demolition is done to assist -- where the second crane is (green box) planned they could selectively demolish to get the new crane in earlier.

As per this, the new crane does not fully cover the site of the new 'link', and a mobile crane of the size needed to lift over the plus 15 to the library would be very hard to get in there. The taller crane will be there until 2022.
