Not sure if this is the right thread, but is there a reason why we need to do design work for every school, and how long it takes? Especially elementary schools that don’t have as many specialized programs, could we not build them like we build transit stations where 75% of the design is the same and just adjusted to fit the site? And sad that the UCP doesn’t recognize there’s any constraint in the inner city schools.

I think for inner city schools, it would be a case of doing additions or expansions. The original schools still exist to cover the area previous covered. Some inner city schools have run out of space and could use some expansion. It might be out of scope for this wave of funding. Not sure.

The issue is we don't have a lot of reporting on the CBE or catholic boards, so we have no idea what they're telling the province. Alberta Ed is just doing what their school boards tell them are priority.

Sorry just correcting myself here, one of the project is inner city-ish. The Louis Dean school, which closed a few years ago and the program was moved, is being planned and redeveloped. Maybe they'd build a new middle school so QE becomes high school only.
