General Construction Updates

Excellent. What's on that land right now needs to go as soon as possible.
I'm liking the surge in ~3-6 storey buildings in this area right now.
Yeah, pretty crap looking houses, this is a massive improvement. I assume by the signage that these are condos?

Speaking of Marda Loop, I’m happy to see that the spider car has found a new home on the roof of the Starbucks on 14th.

Is it in its final position? If so, I'm kind of disappointed. They cut off most of the legs and it looks haphazardly placed in a way that doesn't create much of a visual impact. Also, they painted it black.

I would assume it’s the final place. Why else spend the money to put it up there? The black doesn’t bother me so much. I’ll have to take a closer look at the legs though. I’m just happy they saved it.

Don't mean to bump random topics but I haven't heard anything about what emerged out of the "3 Eau Claire" proposal for a long time. I remember there was a new render out at one point but I can't find the thread for it anymore.
Did that just kind of roll over and die? Or are they just waiting for more demand?
I forget if it was office tower, in which case, I'd hope they take their time.

It's been a while since anything has come of it, and given the state of office space, it's probably deep on the backburner. Here's the thread for it..

PennWest to GCS +15 well underway, sign says planning to be complete by end of 2018. Update from this morning:

I'm sure that +15 connection will be handy for those working in the area, but it also looks like it'll be a solid improvement to the aesthetics of the street environment too. I always felt that that wad of concrete looked really out of place there.

CPC next week has some interesting items. I posted the specific links to the 9th Ave parkade in EV in its thread, same with Courtyard 33. Here are a couple of others of note. Also of note, they have put the CPC agenda up in a new format, to match all other Council and Committee meetings.

Full agenda here:

Item 5.1: Lane closure in EV to prepare for the consolidation of the final block of the RIFF. Not really a big deal, but shows the parcel is one step closer to development:

Item 7.1.1: New seniors complex in Kingsland. DP drawings in the link:

Item 7.2.8: Sunalta Land Use on 10th Ave. This is Bronconnier's project I think. Just land use for now, report is the first link, but a building massing guide is the second link. It's big:

Cidex must still be bullish on Calgary. From the latest David Parker article:
https://calgaryherald.com/business/real-estate/parker-anthem-sees-opportunities-along-bow-river

"Notes:

Calgary’s Beltline district continues to attract investors who have confidence in the area for quality residential development. The latest sale is the 1.79-acre site between 11th and 10th Avenues on 10th Street, across from Vintage Towers and the adjacent popular Midtown Co-op. Owner ATCO Investments contracted the listing to the Avison Young Capital Markets Group, which also represents the new owner Cidex Group. Avison Young principal Kevin Morgans says developers believe there is a need for new residential product able to offer a wide range of amenities, including high ceilings and wider corridors; Cidex plans a mixed-use commercial/residential development for the site."

Sounds like this entire block:
