Truman Hotel | 24m | 6s | Truman | NORR

If this had been a residential building, I think I would have had more of an issue with the walled courtyard, but because it's a hotel, I think this is the type of hotel experience that is somewhat lacking in downtown Calgary. I don't love it, but given the location, I can also understand the desire to wall off that courtyard, and can make my peace with it.

I really like the design otherwise. I think it will be a timeless addition. Between this and the development across from the library, it seems like maybe there is a little bit of momentum for East Village in the mid-rise market.

The thread for the Minto project that is now the latest Truman hotel.

Happy Friday! DP for yet another hotel coming to Calgary, developer is...Truman! More badly needed development in East Village. I'm a fan.

Is this another LOLA design? Looks similar to Library Square, maybe even a little higher quality. Hopeful that some of the details and flourishes aren't VE'd out, like the steps on most every window, super cool.

Regarding the fence, they could easily create a win-win by simply raising the park/pool area one floor up, and having retail/resto fronting the pathway. The guests still get their secured pool area and the river pathway gets a bot more retail..
Exactly this. Riverwalk deserves more. The simmons building's retail/patios makes the riverwalk experience. M2 is a large disappointment at the ground level and failure in basic urban design, but at least it could be retrofitted quite easily with some more restaurant type leases. Walling of this section of riverwalk for a private hotel courtyard...because its development of some sort moving forward would be very misguided. This is the City's chance to get a true riverfront promenade - stick to the vision! I do like the design otherwise.
