Might be a stupid question, but are most of these older apartments in this view, wood frame or concrete? Is there a time frame in which a wood frame condo needs to be torn down and rebuilt?
Much like anything, most of the longevity questions usually come down to maintenance - wood or otherwise. Wood frame buildings can last hundreds of years if they are taken care of and issues fixed.

More contemporary times is a different concept about “useful economic life”, which is related to structural lifecycle, but is more about if it’s worth keeping an old building or tearing down and replacing with something new.

Many of those old bungalows from 1940s and 1950s are examples of this. The building is still fine and still can be maintained, however market tastes want more square footage and extra amenities and energy efficiency. Structural isn’t the issue, useful economic life is.
