Why? I think they add some character to the streets.

They are 100 times better than the rusted brown ones all over the city. When Stephen Ave gets a facelift I’m sure they will put in some nice new black ones.

Just a personal preference for clean & modern over old fashoned.
I don't mind new "old" lamp posts in certain character areas like 17th and 8th Ave. though.

Aye, fair enough, everyone has their preferences and Calgary isn't old enough to justify having stylistically "old" details all over the city
