I doubt dollar store quality LEDs are any more reliable than when Arriva was built.

The plan is pretty flashy already. I'd be a little apprehensive with the programming. LEDs are always flirting with tackiness.

I'm on your side maestro. Sky is gorgeous without having to rely on a light show to sell itself. I like the idea of colour and light on buildings, but standard issue boxus beigius calgarius is way more in need of that sort of thing than Sky.

The cynic in me is wanting to see how the LED's hold up to Calgary's weather in the long-term before getting too excited with the light shows. Here's hoping the technology has come a long ways since the Arriva days.

This is Westbank, one of the greatest developers in the world. Not whatever bush league developer did Arriva 10 years ago. I think we can and should expect greatness out of Telus Sky. There couldn't be a more perfect storm of money and talent behind this project, Bjarke Ingels Group and Westbank.

Time will tell. One thing for certain is it shouldn't be hard to beat Arriva. That one was built 10 years ago iirc, and by a developer running out of money.

does anyone know if the lighting on the spines of the EAP towers is LED?

I had thought they were, but can't verify. I've been impressed by these ones, as they seem to throw off good light, and they've been reliable.

Here's a screen shot of the lights up fairly close

It looks pretty clear to me that they're LEDs, and the fact that they've been so reliable, even with such a relatively mediocre development team as Pickard Chilton and Gibbs Gage, gives hope that the Telus Sky ones will be just as reliable and even nicer looking, considering that building's allstar development team.

One thing that the Telus sky lights have in their favour (and same for EAP) is that if a light fails, it's just one led segment, and 'should' be easy to replace. Arriva had that long LED string, which looks to have been custom made.

It's climbing up on Hanover Place! The curve should begin in a few floors, once it's halfway up Hanover.

I count about 8 floors poured. That's about halfway to the start of the curve. It'll be a while yet until the curves become noticeable.

It appears the curve even starts as low as the 11th floor, whether that's just the glazing on the building or the concrete floor plate I'm not sure. The floorplate curve will definitely be noticeable at the 16th floor or higher.

Is it me or did they modify the bottom section a bit? In the rendering there's an overhang on the SE corner of the building. In the construction photos, it feels much more squared off....you can see some overhang on the south side, but not on the east side. Unless that is still to come via some sort of steel frame perhaps?

They definitely did modify it from the looks of it. Maybe they will use steel as you suggested, but you would think concrete would be easier if they were already doing concrete on the rest of the floor.

I wonder if it was a shading issue? The overhang does cover a fair bit of the corner, and the renderings show were in with the DP before it was approved. Maybe it was changed at some point during the approval process.
