For me, the anticipation for this is equal if not greater to the long rumoured Truman Stampede Station development that did come to be. I probably cannot describe how excited I would feel for Stampede Park to get closer to realizing its potential versus being the Strathmore Stampede Grounds in downtown Calgary. This would be one part of that.

Other than that, it makes sense to consolidate all the sports venues somehow down to this new central entertainment district. Not saying there couldn't, I just wonder what the Stampede's stance on that would be, and they would need to coordinate the available parking with other events going on at the grounds. If they open that up to have game day tailgating as liberal as the current situation at McMahon, and can accommodate the schedule - I'm all for it. There would be the inevitable one game a year during stampede that wouldn't be able to be accommodated I'm sure - the newly dubbed 'Stampede Bowl' that they want to keep happening every year.
 
How much is parking at McMahon vs parking at the Stampede Grounds? I think there will be a similar amount of parking, depending on other events...

I still think the most likely scenario is yet another renovation of McMahon. The Grandstand would be interesting, but they would need to massively increase the infield seats (or have temporary seating for 10 000 people stored somewhere). Then they would have to move all the dirt somewhere and make turf or grass work for professional football... The logistics of the Grandstand for football really don't make sense to me...
 
The Stampede has the demand to expand the infield seats. It is very challenging to get tickets to the Rodeo. Especially if they remove sections from the ends of the grandstand which are not great seats for any kind of spectating. I had heard myself that CSEC and thus the Stampeders are pretty done with the McMahon arrangement with the UofC; they had their rent increased because they spent money on small improvements McMahon.
 
Replacing the Grandstand would be the best scenario if the Stampeders are moving in. It's already 50 years old, and building something with better sightlines for football especially with the now smaller field dimensions would be ideal. They could mitigate the amount of infield seats needed by putting most of the seats in the one grandstand. Maybe a 5k infield and 18k main grandstand?
 
From what I gathered, the UofC wants to build a new stadium on campus for all the Dino athletics (that rendering was posted in another thread). The little stadium is also closer to happening than we think and could be a few months away from being announced. At that point the UofC wants nothing to do with McMahon so the lands can be sold off for development. That leaves the Stamps to head to the Grandstand. I also have no clue how they can make a football stadium work, but perhaps they rip everything down and build something new. No idea.
 
I figure, to ensure that Stampede could continue uninterrupted during any future demo and rebuild of GMC Stadium, they would have to build a new grandstand on the east side first. Then demolish the existing and rebuild. Would be kind of a perfect scenario for both modernizing the Stampede and housing the Stampeders.
 
Chalk me up as another that doesn't see the grandstand / stadium combo really working.
Extreme levels of value engineering at the concept level, really seems like the sort of cheapassery that Edmonton would try, not Calgary...

Having a stadium on the bus barn site instead would allow for a better, more focused facility (ideally a covered one) and has better options for the tailgate crowd. Fort Calgary, the top floor of platform and the parking lot at crossroads come to mind immediately, there could be other sites as well. Lets Inglewood establishments get in on the pre/post game action too.
