In most areas of the city it would stand out as ugly or not fitting in, and TBH I don't mind that the newer Chinatown developments have some kitschyness. It makes Chinatown feel a little more like Chinatown...certainly more than buildings like the previous Friendship Centre or the Ampersand Buildings.
 
i find it looks worse in pictures than in real life. was kind of surprised the first time i saw it completed. not saying i love it but can live with it, esp in the context.
I agree - In person the completed street wall and full lot coverage really makes it. I like it - mostly boring and forgettable, but with a bit of flair and a decent ground floor. Urban cities across the planet have thousands of buildings like this, and we’d be better off if we did as well.
