I kind of agree with disco Stu. I doesn't look bad in those last pictures, but it doesn't look great either. I need to see the finished product plus also in a little bit better lighting before I make my decision.

The glass curtain wall is just one component to the overall picture. Wait for the wood.

And the portion of curtain wall that's up now is mostly spandrel/aluminum but as it goes higher it takes on more glass.

I definitely agree that we need to wait before we make any final judgements (and that the real star of this will most likely be the wood)...all I'm saying is that the first impression of the facade materials aren't necessarily blowing me away. With NMC, as soon as those first few tiles went on the outside, you know it was going to be amazing. As soon as I saw the glass on Brookfield, I was impressed by the quality. Same with 707 Fifth Street.

Not saying it will be bad by any means, it's just not quite the level of material I was hoping for.

It would be interesting if the Library had the tiles instead of Studio Bell. The way the new library is curved, it might have been mind blowing. I agree about the glazing though. It's something that I thought would bow me a way a bit more. The building's massing, and the rest of the materials to come like the wood cladding, will make the building a very good one, but like DS said, it possibly could have mind blowing instead of very good. I guess we'll see how it unfolds. I'm still hopeful.

Agreed! I'm liking this one more by the day. With the wood, the glass covered grand atrium, and the throughway at the main entrance, this building will be a show stopper. Don't be too worried.

I'll be honest, I'm still not loving this. The facade looks a little cheap up close to me. But I'll be patient....

New update for the library today. Wood panelling is starting....not the greatest pics, but it gives a general idea. I'll pop by later with my good camera and get better pics.

I thought the wooden slats would be bigger, but other than that, it's good. Once it's completed, it'll be something new for the city architecturally. With proper lighting, the wooden archway, could be something that looks spectacular at night.
