Hmmm — suspect Ronmor gave up too soon on that issue, as we initially received that same response from the Main Streets group that has just begun work on a Streetscape Master Plan for the 33/34 AV SW Main Streets. We pushed back, taking the position that street trees were a must have, and the project leader has now confirmed that the standard utility clearance setbacks (which tend to overreach) will be relaxed to allow street trees to be planted.
They might have given up too soon, but who can blame them, developers don't how much effort and how much time is going to take to get something like that relaxed, or if it will ever get relaxed.

Yes, at some point they needed their approvals to move forward to construct. The decision to stop spinning their wheels was made. Great that the Main Streets project was able to push it through, but I don't think they were under the same time pressure as a developer with an outstanding bank loan.

Indications are that this has changed from a condo project to a purpose rental. After their experience with Bridgeland (high marketing costs, some unsold units still), the developer has decided to go in a different direction.

For all the complaining about this project from the community, it's turning out okay. It's not overpowering its surroundings at all, and the on ramp to Crowchild wouldn't have been a good fit for retail anyway. Might as well have the units and the density there and put the retail where it would have a better chance = further east along 33rd.
