Great work on this. Aesthetically pleasing materials, human scale height that matches the area, no random neon rectangles, no fucked up window patterns like that high rise in hotel village.

It turns out you don’t need a building full of $600k+ condos to do an effective job.

I hope that residential succeeds....but man with the drop-in 2.5 blocks one way and salvation 1/2 a block to the other, it just makes me hate calgary's planning 30 years. You obv need these services, but add in the mustard seed 5 blocks further to the SW, and you essentially have a flank on the entire S/SE side. Having them spread out like that just cant be the way

I know the neighborhood circumstances don't lend itself well to it now, but man, talk about a perfect spot for a European-style outdoor cafe or restaurant etc.
Seconded. A nice little outdoor pub / sandwich shop / bakery / cafe thingy with a patio facing the library here would be incredible. This area is the civic nexus of Calgary, and we should really treat it as such.

Spend a little time relaxing here after a meeting or event at the library, or the Arts Commons, or Glenbow, or City Hall. Or in the future, coming off the train after a quick business trip to Edmonton.

King Eddy is always closed for some special event - this area needs more space for something calm and unfussy like that.
