Calgary International Airport

Personally I feel like the service quality went downhill ever since they were bought out. Can't wait for Onex to sell the rest of their stake. On the flip side Korean Air is one of the best airlines I've flown
Interesting Korean took 10% while AF-KLM only 2.3% (such a random number). Considering we do more Trans Atlantic than Trans Pacific flying.

From what I read in another article it was because Korean Air wanted to expand further into North America. Both Korean Air and Air France will have a board seat

Who's "we"?

If you hadn't noticed, Canada is well on it's way to becoming majority Asian. At this rate it wouldn't surprise me if the tipping point is hit before the end of the decade.

Companies make these decisions based on future growth projections, not nostalgic waxing.

Something like this could also be a selling point for an aerospace brain gain from the US.

This seems unlikely, with the US going into war warmups it'll be hard for Canada to compete with the pay and opportunities in the US.

"Come enjoy our 50% taxation and 6 months of winter" is going to be hard sell to aerospace engineers in fort worth.

That said, Ukraine was where most of the soviet aerospace brainpower was, I wonder how many of them have taken refuge from the war here?

Neat. I maintain this is one of the most promising growth areas for Alberta and Canadian industry.

Would still love to see DRDC Suffield start up some 'grand challenge' style competitions to help nurture the startup scene. All the ingredients are there...
Defence iDeas is that if perhaps not at the scale you’d like.

Thanks for that, I'll have to keep an eye on the site.

Turns out they're doing almost exactly what I had in mind next year!

I hope there are some live streams of the tests and a decent fireworks show...

I am actually East Asian lol. But the "we" here was Westjet/Calgary, that there's more flights going TATL than TPAC.

Asian flights, outside of popular leisure and business destinations like Seoul, Tokyo, or Hong Kong are hard to make profitable from somewhere like Calgary. Westjet and other airlines rely heavily on business/premium economy demand to turn a profit on those longer flights, and although we have a massive base of customers willing to go to say Manila or Mumbai to visit family, those markets don't generate a lot of business/premium eco demand which makes them harder to run profitably. That's why WS is focusing on and I predict they will continue to focus on Europe over Asia, despite our growing Asian demographic. Korean's investment in WS is likely exactly that, an investment. I'm not really expecting it to bring more Asian flights to Calgary.

Maybe not many new flights, but Korea is a great hub and I can see getting some more flights there.

I recall someone explaining how the elevation of YYC makes the numbers for Manila flight difficult, I'm wondering how much the distance and elevation difference at YEG changes the economics of that?

One of my biggest hopes for the HSR project is that it runs fast enough that YEG could be used as YYCs north terminal for flights like that.

I see WestJet also serving China at some point with Shanghai (or Beijing if the Russian Airspace restrictions are dropped). But outside of that, I wouldn't expect much else in Asia, unless they go after somewhere else in Japan (like Osaka).

DEL & MNL are probably the largest unserved international markets, but fairly low in chances of happening.
